Why is DILARASS the right Summer School for the digital humanist?

DILARASS has been created at the intersection of two highly applicative and interdisciplinary domains: Corpus Linguistics (CL) and Digital Humanities (DH).

Everybody with an interest in the humanities and humanities related disciplines has come across studies or courses that involve digital tools and approaches. We live in a world where research and education are massively impacted by technological innovation. More and more software programs, platforms, applications and digital resources used in CL or DH studies are developed and launched every year, so that it becomes a challenge to keep pace with such rapid transformations.

At the same time, numerous students and researchers in the humanities (and not only) need introductory information which can help them build a basic understanding of the new digital approaches.

In DILARASS, we show participants first insights into the disciplinary knowledge of the two disciplines, we conduct hands-on workshops so that every participant can see how datasets are built and analysed or how different digital tools can be used.

Every year, we select topics that seem to be of interest to as many participants as possible, such as: introduction to corpus linguistics, corpora and technology in language learning and teaching, text analysis methods (e.g. readability, text complexity or sentiment analysis, multimodal discourse analysis), digital methods for cultural studies, or computational literature studies.

Who can apply to attend DILARASS?

If you are an international student (Bachelor, Masters of Doctoral level) or anybody with an interest in using digital methods in humanities, DILARASS is a great place to start learning about and test such methods. After DILARASS, you will be able to immediately implement what you have learned in research or teaching.
